Winter approaching…

As the season changes and winter approaches, it’s time to start shutting down the front and back yards. The pool is already closed but most of the other things are waiting for attention this year.

Hammocks need to be taken down and put away, the rain barrels need to be drained and turned up-side down so that they don’t fill with water and burst when the temperature drops below freezing.

I need to take the grass cutter off the Kiyoti but am waiting for the leaves to finish dropping first so I can take one last run at them and chop them up so that they break down over the winter and sprint so next year they fertilize the grass. Then I can put away the grass cutting attachment and put on the snow thrower.

The hoses need to be put away for the winter and I am going to put the black raspberries, blueberries, goji berry, and Gooseberry plants back into the ground. I took them out in the spring because they weren’t in the right place to thrive. They survived the one summer in the pots but it’s time to put them into the ground again. This time I will put them near the wildflower garden I’m starting in the front yard.

I’m still hoping to put the posts up for the outside yard that we’re going to give to the chickens next year. We’re going to get some egg layers in the Spring and already have a coop almost done. Just the outside yard that needs to be completed. I have to put the posts in the ground and then use some wire fencing to give them a yard that is protected from the coyotes that run around the property.

and lastly, I need to refine and finalize the plans for my maple syrup evaporator oven. Thinking I’ll use brick and concrete blocks to build the structure and the chimney. Last spring i had to redo the fire on the fly and ended up getting too much smoke in the syrup so it tasted too smokey. There was also too much vlame coming up the side of the pans so the syrup burned which affects the taste too. So much to do before the snow flies….
